Latest scam alert which involves emails from Companies House

We've been advised the following:

"It seems that some random emails are circulating claiming to be from Companies House with a zipfile attachment."

This is the latest scam alert which involves emails from Companies House. They have now issued a warning stating that the emails are not being sent by them and are advising strongly that the attachment is not opened. The urgent notification from their website states:

“We have been made aware that random emails claiming to be from Companies House with a zipfile mail attachment are being sent. These mails have not been generated by Companies House and we strongly advise you not to open the attachment. Our customers should be assured that the details we hold have not been compromised.”

Security Advice

Unsolicited / phishing emails Be suspicious of unsolicited emails, even if they look like they’re from a trusted source. Companies House will never ask you to disclose personal or payment information by email. If you have any doubt that an email you receive from Companies House is genuine, please do not follow any links, open any attachments, disclose any personal details or respond to it. Please forward it to Companies House at phishing@companieshouse.gov.uk then delete it. Companies House is unable to investigate paper copies of suspicious emails/websites. In order for us to take any action, you will need to forward the original suspicious email to phishing@companieshouse.gov.uk Companies House will review all emails received but will not respond to them individually. Find out more about phishing – http://www.companieshouse.gov.uk/phishingAdvice/index.shtml Please be extra vigilant of unsolicited emails, even if they look like they’re from a trusted source.
